Medieval Siege
Trebuchets used for both offense and defense <<
Back

In the foreground is a horseman knocked from his mount by a large stone
missile, purportedly from a trebuchet
atop the castle wall.
To the right is a bow powered catapult
.
To the left is a hinged
counterweight trebuchet . The view shows the block and tackle for gaining
mechanical advantage when drawing the beam into the cocked position as
well as the hinged counterweight cabinet and sling.
The small counterweight, perpendicular to the main cabinet, is designed
to damp the swing of the beam, allowing a greater rate of fire.
